Malpractice to Manslaughter: Robert Levy

Thursday Feb 09, 2023
Welcome back for the final segment of our season one finale!
Today, we're building on the story we began last week, where we learned about the life of Jerry Kolpek. This week, we're learning about the depth of negligence that Jerry's doctor was charged with. And we're not just talking about a malpractice case - while it may have been called manslaughter in the courts, to many of the families involved, it was straight up murder.
This is the story of the fall of Dr Robert Levy.

Jerry's story is part one of our special, two part season finale while we wrap up season one. It's hard to believe we've heard so many stories so far!Jerry's story was one I found particularly touching - there are so many positive words I could use to describe Jerry, and a few of those would be: honorable, loyal, loving, committed to family, and avid Gopher fan.
While Jerry's story is intertwined with a very large and shocking lawsuit that resulted in a prison sentence, for this week, we're not going there just yet. This week is dedicated to just knowing who Jerry was and what he meant to all those around him. This is Jerry's story.
Next week will be our final episode of the season, where we'll learn about the aftermath of one of the most shocking malpractice lawsuits in recent years.

Lucy was a vibrant, lively mom of two living in Queensland, Australia, with her soulmate. Life seemed like it couldn't be better. But when Lucy suddenly started experiencing extreme and dramatic feminine bleeding, she was concerned something was very wrong. Doctors assured her these things were normal for a woman of her age - but they were so, so wrong.

David was a healthy and loving husband and father. He didn't let a diagnosis of sarcoidosis slow him down. But when he became ill and couldn't seem to recover, he sought a second opinion. And that second opinion would reveal a misdiagnosis that change the course of his life, and the life of his family who would be left behind to mourn and wonder "...what if?"

Where True Crime and Medicine Collide
Do you love medical mysteries? Do you love true crime?
Me too.
I'm your host, Destree. I have two obsessions - all things medical, and a good old fashioned true crime story. I started this podcast to highlight the stories that fall in both of these worlds.
Primarily, we'll be focused on stories of misdiagnosis, malpractice, and medical misogyny. But we'll also throw in some good old medical mysteries that'll leave you scratching your head.
Join along as an armchair medical intern and see if you can make the right diagnosis before the doctors!
